Description
I decided to follow all of your advice and have Monkin evolve via another item than stones. So since it is a forest dwelling Pokemon I decided to go with berries. You can only find Monkin in the tall grass behind Juniper's lab in Deku Town. I felt it fitting have it found there only since like the starters trio you get in the lab, Monkin evolves into one of the grass/fire/water trio types.

Overall Vision Originality
Technique ImpactMonkin's design is very cute. I really like the fin-like limbs though it may be a little contradictory to the fact that it's based on a primate. I love the little curl of hair atop its head as well as its goofy smile. The disproportionate size of its head is a little deviation from the pokemon style... but then again it IS a "deviation" and you've made it original. The biggest problem with it is that it doesn't seem a plausible pre-evolution for the monkeys. It's not because of its color scheme, which is perfect for a normal-type, but due to its similarity in design. It is so similar to the moneys taht it almost seems like the only difference in its design through evolution is a change in color and hairstyle. Usually there is a considerable difference in size and body structure between evolutions. Perhaps if it were more infant-like....
